Manifest:
1 : readily perceived by the senses and especially by the sight
2 : easily understood or recognized by the mind
In John 14:21 Jesus says, "He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who love Me. And he who loves me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to Him."
I read that, and thought, good. But what does manifest actually mean? I grabbed another translation of the bible, and instead of "manifest" it said, "reveal." Now, I get what that word means, to show. But I thought that manifest had a little more too it. So I went to a dictionary. The definition is above.
Easily understood, or recognized by the mind. That is what Jesus will do if we love Him, and love the Father. If we get that first essential building block in place, we will be able to easily understand how God is working, and what we need to be doing. This is as clear of a blueprint as I can see to discernment.
I just read a section in "Experiencing God" about spiritual gifts, and how we try to identify our gifts, and choose our tasks, rather than let God lead us to a task, and allow him to give us the spiritual gifts we need to accomplish it. In this way, we are trying to work backwards. We see our talents, but then limit ourselves to the possibilities of what we can accomplish. If we really walk by faith, then we are only limited by what God can accomplish. Not very limited if you ask me....
